Ultralounge: The Return of Social Space (with Cocktails)

HEY, KIDS!

If you've already shuddered to the terrifying tale told within our HISTORY page, you already know the sordid story behind our very first gig --  indeed, the reason the Delusionaires formed in the first place.  This sultry serenade ran amok at Tampa's luxurious USF Contemporary Art Museum, drawing the curtain on the celebrated (and reviled, in some circles) ULTRA LOUNGE exhibit.  With a gaggle of tipsy dancing gals and special guest emcee A.W. Stencell (author of the incredible history GIRL SHOW), it was a night to remember indeed (Shannon -- my number's in the book!).  Below lurks the link to the live webcast of that traumatic, titillating triumph, courtesy of the fine folks at Tampa's WEEKLY PLANET.    The stream covers the entire three-and-a-half hours of the evening, so yer gonna have to fast forward an hour & a half or so to dig the racket... and I gotta warn ya, the magician's routine remains in all its... um... never mind.  Yer gonna need the Windows Media Player to dig the scene (sorry, Mac daddies -- though apparently a Media Player for Macs exists in Beta form out there and works with varying success); click on the link below to download the latest version.  Once it's all set up, snap at the link below  for a glorified slide show with hours of sounds both sublime and sucktacular.

Final Exhibition - Thursday, February 24th, 8-11pm *Sponsored by The Weekly Planet

Ultralounge is curated by Las Vegas-based culture critic Dave Hickey. Twelve artists reclaim the exhibition space of the museum as a "social space" where people enjoy spending time together. The iconography of the reclamation is derived from post-hip-hop lounge culture with its infrastructure in raves, clubs, bands, websites and 'zines and its affection for the noir radiance of social space in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Participating artists include: Phil Argent, Aaron Baker, Tim Bavington, Jane Callister, Cynthia Chan, Jack Hallberg, Wayne Littlejohn, Christine Siemens, Jennifer Steinkamp, Mary Warner, Yek and special guest star Jim Isermann.
